Sevika Sanghom

The Mar Thoma Suvisesha Sevika Sanghom, women’s fellowship was inaugurated during the Maramon Convention in the year 1919, under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Abraham Mar Thoma Suffragon Metropolitan.  Every woman of the Mar Thoma church above the age of 18 years is a member of the Sevika Sanghom. All Mar Thoma churches in India and abroad have a Sevika Sanghom branch. The branch elects from its members a committee including office bearers. The vicar of the parish is the President of the Sevika Sanghom.

The Sevika Sanghom organization of the Canadian Mar Thoma Church Toronto was formed in 1979 and since then this organization has played an integral role in the spiritual and material growth of the parish. Sevika Sanghom meetings are held in the church, or houses of Sevika Sanghom members. Some of the programs are bible studies, cottage prayers, visiting sick parishioners and helping the needy. The Sevika Sanghom participates in the activities and mission work of the Diocese.

Sevika Sanghom supports local charities and raise funds for New Church Development project as well as other development projects. Sevika Sanghom also provides financial support to Marriage Aid Fund and Home for Homeless projects of the Mar Thoma Church. The Sevika Sanghom Day observed in September each year is an opportunity for the women to serve in the church, provide leadership with offertory, bible readings, and sermon.

The Sevika Sanghom is committed to a great sense of community service and provides financial support for marriage, education, housing, and medical needs for the sick and needy.

Let us “remember before our God the Father their work produced by faith, their labour prompted by love and endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.”1 Thessalonians 1: 3
