Edavaka Mission

The Canadian Mar Thoma Voluntary Evangelists’ Association

The Great Commission of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ is:

“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.

Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations,

baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.

And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” – St. Matthew 28: 18-20

Every Marthomite is an evangelist who strives to live up to this calling, and the Edavaka Mission supports this mission at the parish level throughout all generations of the Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church.

Overview

– The Edavaka Mission was established within our Parish in 1987.

– Bible studies and intercessory prayers are fundamental components of every Edavaka Mission meeting.

Objectives

  1. Prepare all church members to bear witness to Jesus Christ’s salvation.
  2. Equip members for Christian fellowship, social engagement, charitable work, Bible study, and intercessory prayer.
  3. Promote member involvement in spiritual and social activities and encourage association with like-minded church organizations.
  4. Provide training for Bible study and preaching alongside regular occupations.
  5. Enable all members to participate in the church’s mission.
  6. Organize seminars, classes, workshops, conferences, and mission tours to foster interest in Bible studies, church faith and practices, church history, and ecumenical relationships.
  7. Enable all parishes units to achieve these goals.

Activities

– Initially, Edavaka Mission gatherings took place on Friday evenings at the church, but due to pandemic lockdowns, meetings shifted to an online format.

– Special occasions prompt prayer meetings hosted at our members’ homes.

– Earlier, the Edavaka Mission of the Parish did support three evangelists in India – Bhopal, Pollachi & Sihora – through Mar Thoma Evangelistic Association.

– Annual Retreats for Parishioners and the Annual Parish Convention is coordinated by the Edavaka Mission.
